Perinatal Therapy
with Vanessa Samson, Therapist
For over 17 years, I’ve helped women navigate the emotional and identity shifts that come with pregnancy, postpartum, and becoming a parent.
Are you overwhelmed by all the information about parenting and unsure what to trust?
Do you feel like you’re supposed to be happier than you are?
Are you questioning who you are now that you’ve become a parent?
Moms Come To Me When They’re:
Overwhelmed
Not sleeping
Feeling lost or without identity
Dealing with “perfection pressure”
Experiencing both joy and sadness at the same time
Thinking: “This is amazing and it’s awful”
It doesn’t feel like what they expected
What Therapy With Me Is Like
My approach is collaborative, grounded, and adaptable. We’re not going “by the book” or doing “one size fits all.”
We’ll work together to understand what you’re feeling while also building tools to help you manage the day-to-day.
Some sessions are more structured and solution-focused. Others will go deeper so we can understand the patterns underneath that you’re experiencing and begin changing them.
Modalities
-
Helps you identify and shift unhelpful thought patterns. This can reduce anxiety, guilt, and overwhelm so you feel more in control.
-
Supports processing difficult or overwhelming experiences, including birth trauma or past experiences that are impacting how you feel now.
-
Helps you make sense of your story and separate yourself from the pressure or expectations you’re carrying.
-
Gives you practical tools to manage stress, improve sleep, and feel more capable in your day-to-day life.

About Me
My work is designed for parents who feel overwhelmed by how much has changed and want to feel more like themselves again.
Beneath the surface, I focus on identity, expectations, and the emotional weight people carry into parenthood.
I’m very engaged in the process. This isn’t a space where you just vent and leave. We’re working together to understand what’s happening and what to do about it.
Clients often describe me as collaborative, reflective, and very involved. We work together, not just talk.
Outside of therapy, I’m a mom to two kids, ages 19 months and 7, and part of a biracial family. I’ve lived in New York City and abroad in Mexico, and I’ve spent time doing volunteer work in Colombia. I’m drawn to understanding different cultures and how family dynamics show up across the world,
When I’m not with clients or my family, I’m usually reading fiction, going to museums, or exploring street art. There’s also a lot of music in our home, especially reggaeton thanks to my youngest.
