ways to work together
I offer online individual and couples therapy across New York State.
At the core of my practice, I want you to feel good within your relationships.
why work with me
As a marriage and family therapist, I was trained to look at challenges from a systemic, relational, and more nuanced perspective.
I received my master’s degree in Mexico City and worked for many years in New York City. I have experience working with a diverse population of people, facing multiple systems, and navigating cross-cultural dynamics. I have worked online with clients living all over the world and in New York.
The care I provide is always nonjudgmental, multicultural, trauma-informed, holistic, strengths-based, humanistic, collaborative, and open-minded.
what i offer
Individual Therapy
Through individual therapy, we will get to the root of your feelings, process trauma, and address stressors that are coming up. I support you in relationship challenges with your partner, children, parents, extended family, friends, and much more. We might examine your relationships with technology, shopping, food, or other things. I get to know your background because I believe it plays a role in your current challenges. I support you in learning healthy coping skills and better ways to manage your stress.
Couples Therapy & Couples Intensives
Through couples therapy, you will improve your communication with your partner and better understand one another’s needs. You will work on breaking unhealthy patterns of communication and understanding each other better. You will address resentments and unresolved conflict. I provide pre-marital therapy to work out challenges prior to marriage. I provide therapy to support couples in preparing for having a child, after a child is born, or during other major life transitions. During couples Intensives, we do the work that would usually takes 6 weeks, in 6 hours.
The Investment
Individual Therapy, 55 minute sessions: $225
Couples Therapy, 55 minute sessions: $250
Couples Intensives, 6 hour sessions: $1,500
You are here because you are wondering how much sessions cost and whether I take insurance. Your initial thought might be that you can’t afford to pay this much out of pocket for therapy. The reality is you can’t afford to not pay this much. The average cost of divorce is New York State generally ranges from $15,000 to $25,000.
I am invested in helping you heal and improve your relationships from the minute we start working together. Working with a private therapist that specializes in the challenges you are facing will give you better and faster results.
I am not in network with insurance companies. If you would like to use out of network insurance benefits for couples therapy, call your insurance and ask if they cover treatment for the diagnosis of Z63.0 (relationship distress) and the service code 90847 (family therapy with the patient present). I do not diagnose individuals for couples therapy. For individual therapy, if you do not meet the criteria for a DSM diagnosis, your insurance will not reimburse you for our sessions.
You get what you pay for when it comes to therapy. You could sign up for couples or relationship therapy “covered” by insurance with an online tech company, but your data and privacy might be compromised and you will be working with a generalist therapist who is seeing 80 other clients. Yes, 80! I have worked for these companies. The therapists are underpaid and overworked. I intentionally have a small caseload so that all of my clients get the premium care that they deserve.
You could spend your money on clothes, beauty products, dining at restaurants, child extracurricular activities, vacations, or you can decide to invest in yourself and your relationship. What is it worth to you? Invest in what matters most.
TESTIMONIAL
“My main concern for starting therapy was learning to cope with what at times was crippling anxiety.
From the first session and throughout all of my sessions, Vanessa was warm, caring, professional and always made me feel at ease.
Even during my first few sessions where I cried more than I spoke, she always made me feel comfortable.
The coping skills, confidence, and self-worth she helped me achieve when I ended therapy was immeasurable.
I highly recommend Vanessa.”
